Teeth Extractions!

Yesterday I had 2 teeth extracted! I would love to tell you that I was brave and it was 'no biggie' etc etc but sadly that was not the case... When I was younger I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed...but for this I was sedated. Apart from that I have never had any fillings, root canals, etc! So getting teeth taken out...and being awake for it scared me silly! My boyfriend came with me for moral support and it was the best thing I could have done. Honestly, don't go alone. It's not a pleasant experience. Don't get me wrong, my dentist was lovely and the dental nurse was lovely too but I was still a mess. The minute the needle was put it my mouth I broke down. I've never experienced these numbing injections either (for my wisdom tooth it was in my arm). As we waited for the freeze to work I could feel my top lip get bigger....and bigger....and I couldn't feel the top of my mouth. It was a very odd feeling.

The first tooth to be extracted was on my right side. The dentist told me that I would feel a pushing sensation as it was being taken out. I didn't really feel much and was surprised when she told me it was out. "Awk that wasn't so bad" I thought..... The tooth on the left side was a different story... I could feel the pushing sensation but even more so this time and it was a little painful. This tooth didn't seem to want to come out and in the end the pliers were taken to it!! Once it was out the dentist put some gauze on the gums and I bit on them for pressure and then that was it! I was given a care sheet for the next few days and I even brought my teeth home! I asked my boyfriend if I put the teeth under my pillow, would he swap them for money but this idea was quickly shot down πŸ˜†
(not for the faint hearted)

I'm not going to upload a picture of my mouth because its still a little bloody and sore and no one wants to see that....πŸ˜‚
When I left the dentist I couldn't feel most of my face and my upper lip was twice the size it should be.... It took nearly 3 hours for it to fully wear off. I felt very weak for this time. I was sore on my left side as soon as I left the dentist and have been taking paracetamol since I arrived home yesterday. The care sheet said to avoid alcohol and smoking for the first 24 hours (I don't smoke but some wine would have been delightful πŸ˜”) and to avoid excessive exercise. It also said to sleep with an extra pillow that night! Ive just avoided any sort of exercise and had a lazy day since yesterday afternoon haha! I also had to rinse my mouth with warm salt water 6 hours after the procedure.

I was told to stick to soft foods for a couple of days. I could only manage soup last night for my dinner. I had a smoothie this morning, soup for lunch and then managed to eat cottage pie tonight for dinner. It is hard keeping the food away from the sockets. With there being any empty socket on each side of my mouth, I've been trying to chew with my back teeth. After each meal I rinsed my mouth with warm salt water and I will keep doing this for the next week.

I slept surprisingly well last night, only waking twice but then I woke about 6am and struggled to sleep after that. I have still felt very tired today though. When I woke there was a little blood on my pillow but this is normal. There will still be bleeding every now and then over the next few days but as long as it isn't excessive then there's nothing to worry about!

As long as the sockets heal as they should my braces will be fitted in a weeks time!

Adult Braces: 2 Month Update.

Hi Guys! Just a wee post to let you's know how I've been getting on since my braces were tightened. They were tightened 2 weeks ago and I've had my braces on now for 2 months! It's crazy that it has been 2 months already... Here are some pictures that were taken today... Left side  Right side My teeth are looking really straight from the front but one tooth is slightly longer than the other πŸ˜‚ My dentist will use filler to make them the same length. This has happened because of the way my teeth crossed over each other.  I have a lot of gaps in between my teeth at the sides from how my teeth have been moving. As they continue to move, the gaps will close.  I have experienced more pain since the braces were tightened. My teeth feel loose and the gums feel tender. Sometimes it's sore to brush my teeth! I assume this is just from the teeth moving. I have found that I can't bite down into any food...even soft foods. I ...

Adult Braces: 5/6 Months!

Okay so before I start my 6 month update...I didn't post a blog for a 5 month update so here it goes... 5 Month Update...  My braces were tightened at the end of January. It was at this visit that the power chain finally came off!! πŸŽ‰ So happy! The main aim from this session was to rotate a tooth at each side. These were teeth that would have been at the front but are now moving to the side and need to be turned to face that way. This meant that there was no noticeable change elsewhere. I had pain for the first couple of days after but that was it. I also had a visit to the hygienist during this time too. In the past I have found these sessions pretty unbearable and was really dreading how my teeth would handle it with braces. However, it was actually fine!  6 Month Update!  Yesterday I had my braces tightened once again! The teeth that were being rotated from the last session ...

Adult Braces: 9 Months

Okay so I know this is really late.. Moving house is very stressful and seems to have taken over my life the last few months πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ My last post was 5/6 months.. It's now 9 months. So I had an appointment around 7 months and I had my braces tightened because there was still a gap between 2 of my teeth on the left side. I was told once this gap closed that would be me ready to get my braces off!! After 6 weeks I was back again and that was me ready for my braces to come off. They took moulds for my permanent retainer. This is a wire that goes across the back of the teeth and is extra support to prevent your teeth from moving. I was back at the dentist yesterday and my braces came off!! πŸ™ŒIt's not sore getting them off. The dentist pops them off one at a time. There's a little pressure but no pain.  They then have to get all the glue off. Again this doesn't hurt! I have my permanent retainer on but I don't have my...
