Adult Braces: 9 Months

Okay so I know this is really late.. Moving house is very stressful and seems to have taken over my life the last few months πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ My last post was 5/6 months.. It's now 9 months. So I had an appointment around 7 months and I had my braces tightened because there was still a gap between 2 of my teeth on the left side. I was told once this gap closed that would be me ready to get my braces off!! After 6 weeks I was back again and that was me ready for my braces to come off. They took moulds for my permanent retainer. This is a wire that goes across the back of the teeth and is extra support to prevent your teeth from moving. I was back at the dentist yesterday and my braces came off!! πŸ™ŒIt's not sore getting them off. The dentist pops them off one at a time. There's a little pressure but no pain.  They then have to get all the glue off. Again this doesn't hurt! I have my permanent retainer on but I don't have my...

Adult Braces: 5/6 Months!

Okay so before I start my 6 month update...I didn't post a blog for a 5 month update so here it goes... 5 Month Update...  My braces were tightened at the end of January. It was at this visit that the power chain finally came off!! πŸŽ‰ So happy! The main aim from this session was to rotate a tooth at each side. These were teeth that would have been at the front but are now moving to the side and need to be turned to face that way. This meant that there was no noticeable change elsewhere. I had pain for the first couple of days after but that was it. I also had a visit to the hygienist during this time too. In the past I have found these sessions pretty unbearable and was really dreading how my teeth would handle it with braces. However, it was actually fine!  6 Month Update!  Yesterday I had my braces tightened once again! The teeth that were being rotated from the last session ...

Adult Braces: 3/4 Month Update!

Okay I am so late with this update!!  I had my braces tightened on 15th December which was the 3 month mark! The  weekend before this I got engaged πŸ’πŸ‘° and then with Christmas, New Year and my fiancΓ©'s 30th birthday, things have been a little crazy! My teeth were very sore the day I had my braces tightened and the following day. I struggled to eat that evening and the next morning! It was also very sore to brush my teeth! They only had to use a power chain on the left side this time. The gap in the right side has closed as much as it can. The left side still has a bit to go! I hate the power chains...they are sore!! Hopefully this is the last time I will need one!   I've had very little to no pain since then though! I don't know if I'm just used to it now or if there isn't as much movement this time! πŸ’ I haven't noticed a lot of movement! The first 6 weeks definitely showed the most movement! I'm finding a few g...

Adult Braces: 2 Month Update.

Hi Guys! Just a wee post to let you's know how I've been getting on since my braces were tightened. They were tightened 2 weeks ago and I've had my braces on now for 2 months! It's crazy that it has been 2 months already... Here are some pictures that were taken today... Left side  Right side My teeth are looking really straight from the front but one tooth is slightly longer than the other πŸ˜‚ My dentist will use filler to make them the same length. This has happened because of the way my teeth crossed over each other.  I have a lot of gaps in between my teeth at the sides from how my teeth have been moving. As they continue to move, the gaps will close.  I have experienced more pain since the braces were tightened. My teeth feel loose and the gums feel tender. Sometimes it's sore to brush my teeth! I assume this is just from the teeth moving. I have found that I can't bite down into any food...even soft foods. I ...

Week 6: Braces tightened!

Hey! ✋ So yesterday I had my braces "tightened." For those of you that aren't sure what this means, they change your wires and ligatures (bands). I'm not sure why people say they are getting them tightened... When I arrived my dentist asked how I had got on the last few weeks and was really impressed with how much my teeth have moved already! It was more than she was expecting!! Although she said the movement will slow down a little now!  She had a look at my teeth to make sure everything was looking good then she removed the bands and the arch wire. It felt really strange with only the brackets on. For a few seconds there wasn't any pressure on my teeth and it was great!! πŸ˜‚  Firstly, she put a power chain on. This is a series of bands attached together and is used to close the spaces where my teeth were extracted! They were applied on each side.  I had some discomfort getting the power chain put on as the dent...

Adult Braces: 1 Month

The braces have been on for 1 month!! It has flown by... For those of you thinking of getting braces or for those of you who have just got braces, I'm not gonna lie and tell you it gets easier (sorry!) because it doesn't.. You will have good days and bad days! I've got used to having the braces in my mouth. It just feels normal to have them now!!  My main issue with the braces is the wires rubbing and nipping at my cheeks. This isn't easing at all. Iglu helps when the ulcers appear but it doesn't stop it happening. There are days it makes me really sad....if I talk the wires nip, if I eat the wires nip...if I laugh the wires nip...it's not fun! However! My teeth have moved quite a bit in the last month! When I first got the braces on my dentist told me I would need to use interdental brushes when flossing. The smallest (pink) ones wouldn't fit between my teeth because the crowding was so bad. Only in the last week have I been able to use them! I actua...

Adult Braces: Week 1

I've had my braces on for 11 days now! My dentist warned me that I would be in agony the for the first few days after the braces were put on. I experienced very little pain. In all honesty, I found getting 2 teeth extracted a lot worse and experienced more pain the week following the extractions.  I have been eating mostly soft foods. For the first few days after, everything was either mashed or soup! I'm cutting up all my food and have been eating burgers (without the bap) and sausages in small bites and seem to be okay! I've been sticking to soft fruits like strawberries and bananas. Although, I do struggle to bite into a banana so it needs cut up too!! I tried to eat some shortbread the other day, thinking its a softer biscuit, but even dipping it in my tea, it was still too hard.  I went to a barbecue yesterday and had to cut up my burgers and sausages. I felt like a child πŸ˜† I have experienced...
